USS Nimitz final cruise

The USS Nimitz, the first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier of its class, is about to finish its final cruise. This is just over 50 years since the 332 meter-long ship became operational op May 3, 1975. At the time of writing, the ship is on its way from Hawaii to San Diego. While the ship has had a long career, the end is always sad: the jets will take off for the last time, the nuclear reactors will be removed and sealed, and eventually, the hull will be broken up. So, I guess what is left for us is to watch the “Final Countdown” again and again. It really is a great movie with a lot of Tomcat action!
