Black Widow restoration project
Much of aviation history is preserved by volunteers, private aviation enthusiasts and museums around the world. One long term project that I’ve followed for many years is the restoration of a P-61 Black Widow by the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum in the US. The aircraft, which was recuperated from a mountain in the jungle of Western New Guinea in 1991, is to be restored to flying condition. It is one of only 4 surviving Black Widows in the world. The project runs at a slow pace and so far, 35 years have passed, but it is looking good indeed! If you’re interested, make sure to visit the project’s website every now and then!
