GlobalEye replaces AWACS

At the NATO summit in Ankara on July 7, 2026, it was announced that NATO is looking at the Saab GlobalEye to replace the AWACS aircraft that has been in service for over 44 years. The AWACS have received an update in order to keep it operational until 2035, but when they are taken out of service, there’s a good chance that its successor will be the GlobalEye, which is based on the Bombardier Global 6500 aircraft, combined with Saab’s Erieye Extended Range radar with an advanced suite of sensors and a multi-domain Command and Control system.
